At the hospital where a beloved mom received radiation for a benign brain tumor, there was a bell-ringing ceremony to commemorate the end of treatment. When her 13-year-old daughter, Isabella Spar, realized how meaningful the tradition was to her mother and family, she decided to raise money by making jewelry to put bells in other radiation centers.

So far, she has donated more than 20 bells to radiation centers throughout the United States, from Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City to Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, with more on their way.

Each bell includes a plaque inscribed with a poem to be read aloud when the bell is rung:

Ring this bell, Three times well Its toll to clearly say… My treatment’s done The course is run And now I’m on my way.

Over 15,000 people each year now ring a bell after radiation treatment because of Project Bell.
