Former Russian state-run TV journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who has been living in exile in Paris with her daughter, was sentenced in abstentia to eight and a half years in prison for protesting Russia's war against Ukraine.
After staging a protest near the Kremlin in July, 2022, holding a sign that said, "Putin is a killer.... How many more children need to die for you to stop?" she was placed under house arrest but escaped with her daughter.
She had also interrupted a broadcast by holding a sign behind the anchorwoman about Russian propaganda.
